1st Plectro Nostrum International Composition Competition

Create, submit your work, and be part of the future of plucked string music. Organized by the Federation of Plucked String Orchestras of the Valencian Community, with the support of the Institut Valencià de Cultura. Deadline open until June 30, 2026!

A competition to promote musical creation

The 1st Plectro Nostrum International Competition was created with the aim of fostering the composition of new works for plucked string instruments and enriching the repertoire of our ensembles.

An initiative open to composers from all over the world who wish to contribute their vision to plucked string music.

Who can participate?

This competition is open to composers, conservatory students, music school students and, in general, anyone involved in musical creation.

  • No age limit.
  • Free participation.
  • International scope.

Categories


Plectrum orchestra

  • Bandurria, lute and guitar as the instrumental base.

Guitar orchestra

  • Ensembles with a minimum of four guitar parts.

Requirements of the works

The submitted works must be original, unpublished and unperformed, written specifically for the chosen category.

  • Duration between 3 and 15 minutes.
  • Level suitable for intermediate ensembles (6th year of Professional Music Studies).
  • No arrangements or adaptations of existing works.

Materials to be submitted:

  • Full score in PDF.
  • Individual parts.
  • Audio file (MIDI, MP3 or WAV).
  • Explanatory document (optional).

Calendar and prizes

Calendar

  • Submission period: from April 1 to June 30, 2026.
  • Competition results: September 2026.
  • Premiere of the winning work: at the following year’s FORPPCV festival.

Prizes

Each category includes:

€1,500 net

In addition, the winning work will be premiered at the Federation’s festival and will become part of the FORPPCV sheet music archive.
